E-commerce in Spain has reached 40,000 million euros, according to data from the CNMC”.

Last 2018, Spanish e-commerce closed the year with the best figures in its history, beating its records, and this year 2019 is expected to close the year with even better figures.

According to data from the National Commission for Markets and Competition, Spain closed 2018 with very favourable data with figures that almost reached 40,000 million euros, which translates into a growth of 29% more than the previous year.

The data published on 2 August could not be more favourable for the e-commerce sector in Spain. These figures are for the last quarter of the financial year, and confirm that online sales reached 10.82 billion euros, 26.9% higher than the same period last year and the highest turnover to date.

This growth in sales has affected all sectors of eCommerce to a greater or lesser extent.

Further growth is expected in 2019. Taking into account the exponential growth of Spanish e-commerce over the past few years, this year is expected to close the year with a turnover of around 50 billion euros, if it manages to maintain a 29% growth rate like last year.

Given data like this, there is no doubt that Spanish e-commerce is at its best. If the data and figures continue to be as positive in 2019, the forecasts will be achieved.

The data analysed refer to retail trade and wholesale trade. Currently B2C generates more business than B2B, but forecasts point to a change and that in the next 5 years it will be B2B that sells more through eCommerce.

In future articles we will analyse the possibilities of wholesale in e-commerce and the differences in customers depending on the business model.
